Functional Analysis: 17th Steps in the Construction of a Functional Analysis.

ABSTRACT

The functional análisis integrates information from behavioral assessment with a patient and the research literature to help the behavior therapist make the best treatment decision. This workshop will cover the step-by-step process of developing a functional analysis, based on underlying concepts of the behavioral paradigm, the methods of behavioral assessment, and the use of Functional Analytic Clinical Case Diagrams. We will illustrate the identification of a patient’s problems, the relative importance of those problems, functional relations among multiple behavior problems, the identification of causal variables, the types of causal relations affecting a patient’s behavior problems, the modifiability of a patient’s causal variables, moderator and mediator causal variables, proximal and distal causal relations, possible errors in the functional analysis, and how to estimate the relative magnitude of effect of a causal variable.

RESUMEN

El análisis funcional integra la información de la evaluación conductual con los pacientes y la literatura científica, para ayudar al terapeuta de conducta a tomar una decisión sobre el mejor tratamiento posible. Este taller abordará el procesos paso-a-paso para desarrollar un análisis funcional, basándose en los conceptos subyacentes al paradigma conductual, los métodos de la evaluación conductual, y el uso de los Diagramas de Análisis Funcional del Caso Clínico. Ilustraremos la forma en que se identifican los problemas del paciente, la posible importancia de estos problemas, las relaciones funcionales entre múltiples problemas de conducta, la identificación de variables causales, los tipos de relaciones causales que afectan a los problemas de la conducta del paciente, la modificabilidad de esas variables causales, las variables causales mediadoras o moderadoras, las relaciones causales próximas o distantes, los posibles errores en el análisis funcional, y cómo estimar la magnitud relativa al efecto de una variable causal.
